e-Concert #2
Here's a second short
musical program to enjoy. I thought this might be an interesting way to present
piano roll midi files for a change. Start at piece number one and play your
way through. Don't just click and click and never get to listen to anything
properly - there's only 8 pieces not 3000 after all. Hopefully you'll find
something here you never heard before. I'll put together another 1/2 hour
of music shortly. A copy of everything you hear is scanned for
preservation. This second"concert" is based around syncopated music like the
first. Many thanks to Julian Dyer for scanning and making this possible.
1. Mendle's Son
Very irreverent one-step treatment for poor old Mendelssohn here. Chunks of his
Spring Song and Wedding March plus more are all one-stepped in together.
The musical arrangement is mad-as-a-hatter : just the thing! Composed by
"F Barthold" - the name is clearly a play-on-words with Mendelssohn's
name Themodist T24036 Mendle's Son One Step - F Barthold - 88-note
2. That Ever Lovin' Bear Cat Dance
A divine 1911 melody from that great Indiana tunesmith Paul Pratt. They
don't write song titles like this anymore! Melographic X212-75 That Ever
Lovin Bear Cat Dance - Paul Pratt 88-note
3.
Zu Zu Rag
A little-known rag from 1916 played here live by Victor Arden. The printed
score is a bit bare-bones so Arden fills out the chords a bit and injects
a little life. Issued as an early Ampico recording and here as a Rythmodik-label
version of the same perfromance. Rythmodik E17663 Zu Zu Rag - Max E Fishler
played by Victor Arden 88-note
4. "Gay Broadway" Comic Opera Hits
of 1912
A grand Herman Avery Wade medley of 1912 Broadway show tunes. The
individual titles are (i) That Tangalo Tap (ii) Ma Blushin' Rosie (iii)
Love Never Dies (iv) My Sumurun Girl (v) Buzz On, Busy Little Bees (vi)
Roses Bloom for Lovers (vii) When There's No Light at All (viii) I Want
a Regular Man Universal 99335 88-note
5. 12th Street Rag instrumental foxtrot
A novel 1920s re-vamp for the old rag which has more lives than a cat. Arrangement
by C Wheeler. Themodist T24133 12th Street Rag - Euday Bowman 88-note
6. Apple Jack
"Some Rag"
A nice example of an early C L Johnson rag. A simple arrangement of a simple
rag with a charm of it's own. QRS 30924 Apple Jack - Johnson 88-note
7.
Follies of 1914 selection
All the hit tunes of the Ziegfeld Follies of 1914 expertly arranged again
by Mr. Wade into sheer delight! Music by Stamper & Hubbell. The individual titles
are : (i) When the Ragtime Army Goes Away to War (ii) Baby Love (iii) Futurist
Girl (iv) Good-Night (v) My Little Pet Chicken Artistyle 91416 Follies
of 1914 - Stamper & Hubbell 88-note
8. Claire de Lune rhythm version
A mellow way to finish up. J Lawrence Cook's oh-so-laid-back version of
Debussy's Claire de Lune QRS 8021 Claire de Lune - Debussy : arranged
and played by J L Cook 88-note
